Dental insurance and CDCP at your first visit: what to prepare

insurance

Published

How to get ready for coverage questions at a new dentist, including what to bring and what to ask about CDCP and private plans.

Coverage questions are often the biggest unknown for new patients. A little preparation can make the conversation simple. Here's how to approach it at Morgan Heights Dental Centre.

What to gather beforehand

  • Your insurance card or CDCP details
  • Your plan or member number
  • The name of the primary plan holder, if it isn't you
  • A note of any treatments you've had recently, since some plans have frequency limits

Questions worth asking

  • Which services does my plan typically cover, and at what percentage?
  • Is there a yearly maximum, and how much have I used?
  • Do any treatments need pre-approval?
  • What would my estimated out-of-pocket cost be?

How we help

Our team can go over your coverage with you and explain your options, costs and timing before treatment begins. Estimates depend on your plan, so we'll be clear about what we can and can't confirm. Our dental insurance and CDCP coverage page has more detail.

Planning larger treatments

If you need a crown or sedation, it helps to understand coverage early. See how same-day CEREC crowns fit your benefits and sedation dentistry and coverage.
