Got CDCP? Here's what it covers.

Does CDCP cover your whole dental bill? Here's what it covers, what you may pay, and how a visit works at Morgan Heights.
Wondering what the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) covers at a dentist in South Surrey? Yes, Morgan Heights accepts CDCP, and we bill Sun Life directly, so you pay only the portion CDCP doesn't cover. Here are the answers to the questions we hear most.
Who qualifies for CDCP?
The Government of Canada decides who qualifies. In general, that means:
- No private dental insurance
- A filed tax return
- Canadian residency for tax purposes
- Family income under $90,000
Does CDCP cover your whole bill?
Many people think CDCP covers 100%. But that 100% means CDCP's own fee for an eligible service, nothing more. We follow the BC Dental Association's fee guide, while CDCP pays from its own schedule, which can be lower. That difference is your portion. It's not a surcharge, just two fee guides, and we tell you before treatment.
Can you use private insurance and CDCP together?
Generally no, since access to private insurance usually makes a person ineligible. If you're unsure, ask our front desk. Direct billing works for most private plans, so your insurer pays us and you cover only deductibles or co-payments. Barb, our certified dental administrator, can help along the way.
How a visit works
- When you book, share your insurance or CDCP information.
- Our front desk checks what your plan covers.
- For larger work, we send an estimate first (called a predetermination) to your insurer or CDCP.
- You have your treatment once you know the options and your portion.
- We bill directly: Sun Life for CDCP, or your private insurer.
One caution: an estimate helps you plan, but it isn't a guarantee. Plan rules and remaining benefits can change, and your insurer or CDCP makes the final decision.
