Straight answers to common questions about same-day crowns, including how long they take, how they feel, and how coverage works.

Thinking about a same-day crown? Here are answers to the questions we hear most. For more detail, see our same-day CEREC crowns guide.

What is a same-day crown?

It is a ceramic crown designed from a digital scan and milled in our office, so you can often avoid a temporary crown and a second visit.

Do I need messy impression trays?

No. A small scanner takes a 3D digital impression of your tooth.

How long does it take?

Milling takes about seventeen minutes. With sintering and glazing, it is roughly forty-five minutes from design to ready. The full visit is longer, since it includes your exam, scan, and bonding.

Will it hurt?

Your tooth is frozen first. Most patients feel pressure rather than pain. If you are anxious, ask about sedation options in our sedation dentistry guide.

Is a same-day crown right for everyone?

Not always. Your dentist will assess your tooth, bite, and needs during an exam, then recommend the best option for you.

Is it covered by insurance?

Many plans help with crown costs. We offer direct billing for most private plans and CDCP. See our page on dental insurance and CDCP coverage.

How do I care for my crown?

Brush and floss as usual, keep up with regular cleanings, and tell us if your bite feels uneven.
