A closer look at how CEREC technology scans, designs and mills a crown in one visit, and what to expect in the chair at our South Surrey office.

If you need a crown, the idea of skipping a temporary and a second appointment is appealing. Here's how CEREC same-day crowns work at Morgan Heights Dental Centre.

What is CEREC?

CEREC is digital technology that lets your dentist design and make a ceramic crown in the office, so there's no need to wait for a lab. Whether it's suitable depends on your tooth, and your dentist will advise you.

The one-visit process

  • Prepare: Your dentist gently prepares the tooth.
  • Scan: A digital scanner captures the shape, so messy impression material isn't needed.
  • Design: Your crown is designed on screen.
  • Mill: The crown is milled in about 45 minutes.
  • Fit: Your dentist checks the fit and bonds it in place.

Why patients like it

  • Fewer appointments
  • No temporary crown to look after
  • Digital impressions instead of trays

Is it right for every tooth?

Not always. Some situations call for a different approach, and your dentist will recommend the most suitable option.

What about coverage?

Crowns are often covered in part by insurance. Read how same-day CEREC crowns fit your benefits.
