How long does an implant take? Does it hurt? Will insurance cover it? Answers to the questions South Surrey patients ask most.
Thinking about replacing a missing tooth with an implant? These are the questions we hear most often at our South Surrey office.
How long does the whole process take?
Four to six months is typical. The implant post needs time to fuse with your jawbone before the crown goes on top. Some cases that need a bone graft take longer.
Does getting an implant hurt?
The placement is done under local anesthetic and most patients compare recovery to a tooth extraction — mild soreness for a few days, managed with over-the-counter pain relief. If you're nervous, ask about sedation options.
Am I a candidate?
Most healthy adults with enough jawbone are. Smoking, uncontrolled diabetes, and certain medications can affect healing. A 3D scan tells us for sure.
How do I clean an implant?
Brush and floss like a natural tooth. Many patients find implants easier to keep clean than a bridge because floss slides between the implant and neighbouring teeth.
How long do implants last?
With good hygiene and regular cleanings, implants have strong long-term success rates — often decades.
What if I need the tooth replaced sooner?
A temporary flipper or a bridge can fill the gap while you decide. See our full implants guide or call 604-535-8835.
