A step-by-step guide to confirming CDCP eligibility, gathering what you need and knowing what to ask your South Surrey dentist before your first appointment.

Getting ready for your first CDCP dental visit is easier when you know the steps. Here is a simple walkthrough, so you arrive prepared and know what to expect.

Step 1: Confirm you are enrolled

The Government of Canada decides who qualifies for CDCP, so your first step is to confirm your eligibility and enrolment through the official program. If you are unsure, we can point you to where to check. Our page on dental insurance and CDCP coverage explains the basics.

Step 2: Know your share of the cost

Your portion depends on your family income:

  • Under $70,000: you pay 0%, and CDCP covers its full fee
  • $70,000 to $79,999: you pay 40%
  • $80,000 to $89,999: you pay 60%

CDCP may not cover the whole bill, because there are two fee guides and the difference between them becomes your portion.

Step 3: Gather what to bring

  • Your CDCP enrolment details
  • A photo ID
  • Any private insurance information, since you usually can't have both CDCP and private coverage
  • A list of any medications and health concerns

Step 4: Ask for your cost before treatment

Before any work begins, ask your dentist for a clear estimate of what you will pay. At Morgan Heights, we give you your cost before treatment and bill Sun Life directly, so there are no claim forms for you to fill out.

Step 5: Book your visit

We offer Tuesday evenings, Saturdays and free parking. Read our new patient information page, or visit Morgan Heights Dental Centre to book. For a wider look at how practices explain CDCP, see our CDCP dentist comparison.
