CEREC Same-Day Crowns: What Makes Them Different
restorativedentistry
A deep look at CEREC same-day crowns — the digital scan, chairside milling, and why one appointment can replace two.
A traditional crown usually means two visits, a temporary, and a goopy impression tray. CEREC changes all of that. Here's how same-day crowns actually work at our South Surrey practice.
The digital scan replaces the impression tray
Instead of filling your mouth with impression putty, we use a small wand to take a digital scan. Most patients find it faster and more comfortable, especially those with a strong gag reflex.
Design happens in the room
The scan appears on a monitor and Dr. Alenabi designs your crown to match your bite and neighbouring teeth. You can see it before anything is made.
Chairside milling in about 15 minutes
A block of ceramic — zirconia for molars, lithium disilicate for aesthetic areas — is milled on site while you wait. No lab shipping, no two-week gap.
Minimal tooth reduction
Our all-ceramic CEREC crowns need less than one millimetre of tooth reduction, preserving more natural structure than many traditional options.
Bonded and polished the same day
The crown is tried in, adjusted, bonded, and polished before you leave. No temporary to pop off, no second numbing appointment.
