Same-day crowns: your questions answered

faq

Cost, longevity, insurance, comfort, and how CEREC ceramic compares to traditional lab crowns — the answers patients ask us most.

Before booking a same-day crown, most patients want the same handful of questions answered. Here's what we hear most often at Morgan Heights Dental Centre.

How long does a same-day CEREC crown last?

With good hygiene and regular checkups, ceramic CEREC crowns typically last many years — comparable to traditional lab-made crowns. Longevity depends on your bite, grinding habits, and how well you care for the tooth.

Does it hurt?

The prep is done with local freezing, so the appointment itself is comfortable. Some patients notice mild gum tenderness for a day afterward. If you feel anxious about dental visits, ask us about our sedation dentistry options.

Is a CEREC crown as strong as a lab crown?

CEREC crowns are milled from a solid block of high-strength ceramic, which is strong, metal-free, and shade-matched to your surrounding teeth. For most back and front teeth, they perform just as well as traditional crowns.

Will my insurance cover it?

Most dental plans that cover crowns cover CEREC crowns the same way — the billing code is for a crown, not for how it's made. We're happy to help you check your coverage before booking.

How is it different from a traditional crown?

No putty impressions, no temporary crown, and no second visit two weeks later. Everything happens in one appointment of about an hour.

Can any tooth get a same-day crown?

Most damaged, cracked, or heavily filled teeth are good candidates. We'll confirm during your exam. Learn more in our guide to same-day CEREC crowns or contact us to book a consultation.
