Dental lasers have quietly changed how many procedures are performed. Instead of a drill or scalpel, a focused beam of light does the cutting, shaping, or disinfecting — often with less bleeding and faster healing.
Two Main Types
- Soft-tissue lasers work on gums and other soft tissues. They're used for gum reshaping, treating cold sores, and removing small growths.
- Hard-tissue lasers can prepare enamel and dentin for fillings and are useful in specific cavity situations.

Limitations
