Immediate Dentures and Flippers: Same-Day Teeth with 3D Printing
dentaltechnology
How in-house 3D printing lets us design and deliver immediate dentures and flippers so you never have to leave the office without teeth after an extraction.
Losing a tooth — especially a front one — is stressful, and "you'll go home without it" isn't an answer most patients can live with. That's where immediate dentures and flippers come in, and 3D printing makes them faster and better-fitting than ever.
What's an immediate denture or flipper?
A flipper is a small, lightweight partial denture that replaces one or a few missing teeth — often used during the healing period before an implant or bridge. An immediate denture is a full or partial denture designed to be placed the same day teeth are removed, so you never leave without a smile.
The 3D printing advantage
Traditionally, these appliances required physical impressions, wait times at an outside lab, and sometimes a second visit for adjustments. With in-house digital design and printing, we can:
- Scan your existing teeth before extraction to capture your natural smile shape.
- Design the replacement digitally — position, shade, and bite are dialed in on screen.
- Print the appliance in-house, ready for the day of your procedure.
- Adjust quickly if fit needs fine-tuning after healing.
Who benefits most
- Patients having a front tooth removed who can't be without it for cosmetic reasons.
- Patients planning a dental implant who need a temporary tooth during healing (see our guide to dental implants).
- Patients transitioning to full dentures who want continuous function through the change.
What to expect on the day
You'll come in, we'll remove the tooth, and the pre-made immediate appliance is fitted right away. There may be some swelling in the first days, and a soft-tissue reline is common as your gums settle. We schedule follow-up visits to check comfort and fit.
Living with a flipper
Flippers are removable — you take them out at night, clean them daily, and treat them gently. They're a bridge, not a forever solution, but they keep you smiling and speaking normally while the longer-term plan comes together.
