How to prepare for a same-day CEREC crown appointment

A step-by-step walkthrough of what to do before, during, and after your same-day CEREC crown visit — from morning-of tips to first-week aftercare.
A same-day crown appointment is shorter and simpler than a traditional two-visit crown, but a little preparation still helps the visit go smoothly. Here's how to get ready.
Before your appointment
- Eat a light meal beforehand. The appointment can run two to three hours from numbing to final polish, so a small meal a couple of hours ahead keeps you comfortable.
- Take your usual medications. Unless we've told you otherwise, keep to your normal routine — including anything for blood pressure or anxiety.

- Plan a low-key afternoon. You'll be fine to drive and work after most crown visits, but a quiet evening is a nice reward.
During your visit
We'll numb the tooth, gently shape it, and take a 3D digital scan — no putty impressions. While the crown is being milled from a ceramic block in the next room, you can relax, read, or watch something. When it's ready, we try it in, adjust the bite, and bond it in place. After you leave
- Wait until the freezing wears off before eating.
- Stick to softer foods for the first day.
- Brush and floss normally — the crown is fully bonded and ready to use.
- Some mild sensitivity to cold for a few days is normal.
