How to Prepare for a Laser Dentistry Appointment in South Surrey

A step-by-step guide to preparing for a laser dental visit — what to eat, what to ask, and what happens once you're in the chair.

If your next visit at Morgan Heights Dental Centre involves a dental laser, a little preparation goes a long way. Here's how to walk in relaxed and ready.

Before your appointment

  1. Confirm the procedure. Ask the front desk which laser is being used — a dual-wavelength system handles both hard- and soft-tissue work, so the plan depends on what's being treated.
  2. Eat a light meal. Most laser procedures don't require sedation, so there's no fasting needed. A light meal an hour before helps if freezing is still used in one area.
  3. List your medications. Blood thinners and certain supplements can affect soft-tissue healing. Bring an up-to-date list.
  4. Flag any anxiety. If needles or drills usually stress you out, tell us. Many laser procedures need little or no freezing, and we can also discuss calming options.

The day of

  1. Arrive 10 minutes early to review consent and eye-protection steps.
  2. Wear the protective eyewear we provide — laser safety protocols require it for everyone in the room.
  3. Breathe and ask questions. The dentist will explain each step: what the beam is doing, how long it takes, and what you'll feel (often just warmth or a light tapping sensation).

After your visit

  1. Follow the tissue-specific aftercare. Soft-tissue laser sites heal with less bleeding but still need gentle brushing around the area for a few days.
  2. Skip very hot foods for the rest of the day if a soft-tissue procedure was done.
  3. Book any follow-up while you're at the front desk — some gum-therapy protocols use the laser across two or three visits.
