Nervous about the dentist? Here's how we go at your pace, from gentle explanations to oral or IV sedation.
Nervous about the dentist? You're far from alone, and there's a calmer way to do this. If you're looking for a dentist in South Surrey who understands anxious patients, tell us when you book and we'll go at your pace and explain each step before we do it.
Which level of support fits you?
- A little nervous: we explain every step and go at your pace.
- Quite nervous: oral sedation, a medication taken by mouth, can help you feel more relaxed.
- Very anxious, or facing longer treatment: IV sedation, given through a small IV, can keep you deeply relaxed.
- Not sure? We'll decide together at your consultation.
It all starts with a consultation where we review your medical history, preferences and concerns. Our sedation dentistry guide has more detail.
Who looks after you during IV sedation?
Our dentist and certified dental assistant are both trained in IV sedation, we use non-opioid medications, and a heart monitor tracks your vital signs. Your trained team stays by your side the whole time. We keep an eye on:
- ECG: the rhythm of your heart
- Heart rate: beats per minute
- Blood pressure: checked throughout
- Oxygen level: the oxygen in your blood
- Breathing rate: kept steady and calm
Sedation can help with everything from cleanings and fillings to root canals, wisdom teeth, dental implants and more advanced surgery, so ask whether it's right for you. We'll also walk you through how to prepare beforehand and how to arrange getting home afterwards.
One patient wrote of getting just the right amount of anesthetic, and our practice has excellent reviews from more than 1,200 patient interactions.
