A dental implant is one appointment in name only — the full process usually spans several months. Here's what each stage actually involves.
Stage 1: Consultation and 3D imaging
We review medical history, take a 3D cone-beam scan, and assess bone volume around the missing tooth. This is where the treatment plan (and timeline) is built.
Stage 2: Extraction or site preparation (if needed)
If the failing tooth is still in place, it's removed gently to preserve bone. Some cases need a bone graft to build up the site before an implant can anchor properly.
Stage 3: Implant placement
The titanium post is placed into the jawbone under local anesthetic, with sedation available if preferred. Most patients describe it as easier than an extraction.
Stage 4: Healing and osseointegration
Over roughly 3–6 months, bone grows around the implant and locks it in place. You wear a temporary tooth during this phase if the gap is visible.
Stage 5: Abutment and crown
Once healed, a small connector (abutment) is attached and a custom crown is designed to match your surrounding teeth. This is when the tooth truly feels finished.
Stage 6: Long-term maintenance
