How to care for your new CEREC crown in the first week

aftercare

Published

A simple, day-by-day guide to eating, brushing, and protecting your same-day ceramic crown so it settles in comfortably.

Your same-day crown is bonded and ready to use before you leave the chair, but a little care in the first week helps everything settle in comfortably. Here's what we recommend to patients after a CEREC visit at Morgan Heights Dental Centre.

Day 1: right after your appointment

  1. Wait until any freezing wears off before eating — usually one to two hours.
  2. Stick to softer foods for the first meal: eggs, pasta, soup, yogurt.
  3. Expect mild gum tenderness where we worked; it usually eases within a day.
  4. Brush gently around the crown that evening, as you normally would.

Days 2–3: easing back to normal

Most patients are back to regular meals within 24 hours. Chew on the opposite side for the first day or two if it feels more comfortable, and skip very sticky foods like caramel or chewing gum while your bite adjusts.

Days 4–7: settling in

By the end of the week your crown should feel like a natural tooth. Keep flossing daily — slide the floss out sideways at the gumline rather than snapping it up, which protects the margin where crown meets tooth.

When to call us

Contact the office if your bite feels high, you notice sharp sensitivity to cold that lingers, or the crown feels loose. Small bite adjustments are quick and painless.
