Porcelain Veneers for a Smile Makeover: What They Fix (and What They Don't)

A closer look at porcelain veneers — the cosmetic workhorse behind many South Surrey smile makeovers.

Veneers get most of the credit in a smile makeover, and for good reason — thin shells of porcelain can reshape, resize, and recolour front teeth in a way nothing else quite does. Here's an honest look at what they handle well and where they fall short.

What veneers are good at

  • Covering deep stains that whitening won't lift
  • Rebuilding worn or chipped edges
  • Closing small gaps between front teeth
  • Making uneven teeth look even without braces
  • Giving a consistent shape and shade across your smile line

What veneers aren't the right tool for

  • Replacing missing teeth — that's where implants come in
  • Fixing large structural damage — a crown (often a same-day CEREC crown) is stronger
  • Correcting significant bite problems — orthodontics first
  • Brightening already-healthy teeth — Zoom whitening is less invasive

What the process looks like

After your assessment, we prepare the front surface of each tooth, take an impression, and bond custom porcelain veneers in place at a follow-up visit. Local anesthetic keeps it comfortable.

Caring for veneers

Brush and floss as usual, avoid using your front teeth as tools, and wear a nightguard if you grind. Well-cared-for veneers routinely last 10–15 years or more, though results vary.
